We strongly recommend renting a car for your stay at Malaekahana since it is in a rural area. Hawaii's bus system does offer round-island bus service, but there is so much to see, that a personal rental car is highly recommended.
Check-in time is 4:00 pm.
Check-out time is 11:00 am.
Whenever we have groups checking in on the same day as others check out, the above times must be strictly enforced.
Before your flight to Honolulu, please confirm with us by calling Reed at 808-271-3806 or Anne at 808-223-6080 that we are aware of your flight arrival time and planned arrival time at the house.
We recommend allocating 90 minutes to retrieve your luggage and secure your rental car and an additional one-hour drive to Malaekahana.
Upon arrival at the airport in Honolulu, please call us to obtain any last minute instructions.
Formal check-in is not required since the North door has a push button lock. The door code will be set to the last 4 digits of the primary renter's cell phone.
Directions from the Airport to the home are below (although it is only 37 miles expect one hour or more drive time):
Follow Airport Exit signs for H1 West & H3
Go 2.5 mi on H1 West
Take the I-H3 E exit to Kaneohe - go ~1.0 mi
Bear left onto the I-H3 E ramp to Kaneohe - go 8.5 mi
Take the HI-63 N exit 9 - go 0.2 mi
Take the HI-83 Kahekili Hwy exit 9 (bear Right around loop and continue through signal onto HI-83)
Continue Northwest on Kahekili Hwy 5 miles (at 4.4 miles it changes into Kamehameha Hwy, but you won't notice the name change)
Sunshine Arts Hawaii Gallery is on your right. On certain occasions we may direct you to pick up your keys at the Gallery. Otherwise, continue the directions below.
Proceed another 19 miles on Kamehameha Hwy to the town of Laie. You'll know you're there because it will be the first traffic signal in 20 miles of driving. The Foodland store here is the closest supermarket and it has most everything you'll need. However, since Laie is home to the Mormon Temple, they do not sell alcoholic beverages. For wine, beer and spirits we recommend the Times Supermarket in Temple Valley or the Foodland at Pupukea.
1 mile past the signal at Laie you'll see a sign for Gunstock Ranch on the left and a dirt road 100 feet further ahead on the right.
Make a hard right at this dirt road, nearly a U-turn.
You'll go only 100 feet down the dirt road

Turn left at the first driveway and drive up to the top of the hill where you'll find the A-frame house on the beach side and our separately rented cottage on your left.
If you've never heard of the Windward Side of Oahu, you're not alone. From Makapu'u Beach at the south-eastern tip of Oahu all the way up to La'ie, there are no major hotels. The one and only nice hotel on the entire Windward Coast is the Turtle Bay Resort, northwest of Kahuku. At Turtle Bay you'll find condos renting for several times the prices of our 4 bedroom home on 1.5 ACRES!
